Nicole and Viviane Hagner Duo

As sisters Nicole and Viviane Hagner remember it…

“We started playing music together almost as soon as we had started learning our instruments, exploring all possible ensemble combinations: two violins, two pianos, and violin/piano.
After winning first prize as a piano duo at the all-German competition ‘Jugend musiziert’, we soon realized that sitting at two pianos facing each other was not too conducive to serious music making, since we often couldn’t stop giggling and laughing, even during performances. In our defence, it has to be said that it all happened during our early teenage years!

So performing as a violin/piano duo proved to be a more successful and serious artistic partnership and to date, we have performed in numerous venues including Berlin Philharmonie (Kammermusiksaal), London’s Wigmore Hall, Châtelet Paris, and at Avery Fisher Hall in New York.
Our first recording was released on the EMI label featuring works by Beethoven, Schubert, and Saint-Saëns.
In the 2011/12 season, duo performances will take us to various cities in Germany (Berlin, Cologne, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and others), to the Netherlands (Tilburg), and the U.S.A. (Philadelphia, San Diego).”
